In 1976 Pennine Communications was formed and the first contract was with Greater Manchester buses. We were the first dealer of Motorola radios in the UK. In 1983 the business became a limited company and changed it’s name to Pennine Telecom Ltd. In 1992, the business located to Pennine House in Bury.
Pennine was one of the UK’s leading independent business communication specialists, stretching back over 40 years. A solutions-led approach embracing a range of communication technologies.
These included unified communications systems and hardware, contact centre solutions, wide area, local area and business wi-fi networks, hosted and IT services, business mobiles, and, of course, their original specialism, business radio systems.
Being a nationwide company that does a lot more than telecoms, Pennine Telecom rebrands as WeArePennine. Shortly afterwards WeArePennine was purchased by the Nycomm Group of companies.
To support our radio customers in the Southwest of the country Pennine acquires Co-Channel Electronics near Bristol in 2017.
Founded in 1978, Co-Channel specialised in two-way radio and wireless communications, serving a broad range of clients across the West Country and surrounding counties.
Specialist services included radio systems and control systems installations, with particular expertise in licenced and unlicensed microwave communications. They also offered repair, hire, support, and airtime services as part of their portfolio.
In 2019 Pennine acquired UC devices business Rocom and video and AV company Videonations and rebranded as Avoira with our strapline “fluent in technology”.
Rocom was the largest specialist solutions supplier of communications products, solutions and services in the UK with over 30 years’ expertise.
From headsets, handsets, and audio conferencing, to Unified Communications, network connectivity and hosted telephony, Rocom was ideally placed to help enterprise level businesses and public sector organisations optimise collaboration and drive overall efficiency and performance.
For almost 20 years, Videonations specified and installed video conferencing and audio-visual solutions to businesses right across the UK.
Operating from its premises in Manchester and London, they were fully accredited by leading manufacturers from the industry to deliver custom built solutions that were most suited to their clients’ needs.
ISO accredited, Videonations displayed commitment to quality, customer service, and a visible ethic of working towards improving efficiency for both themselves and their customer base.
Yellowbus was acquired into the Nycomm group in 2020.
Established in 2000, and with premises in Warrington, Cheshire and Sellafield, Cumbria, Yellowbus was a dynamic Managed Services business, delivering Managed IT, Cloud services, Network & Infrastructure solutions and a suite of connectivity solutions for its committed client base. Yellowbus had an expertise in the nuclear, engineering and central government sectors, and operates a Security Cleared Network Operations Centre (SC-NOC), which enables remote monitoring of clients’ critical infrastructure.
In 2022 Nycomm Holdings sold indirect distribution businesses Nimans, Yealink (UK) Ltd and Interquartz (UK) Ltd to specialist trade only distribution company Midwich leaving Avoira as the sole subsidiary 100% focused on providing technology solutions directly to businesses throughout the UK.
