Microsoft Teams Direct Routing Licensing

July 11, 2022

In the modern working world, strong communicative capabilities are more important than ever before. In order to stay connected and productive, organisations must invest in consolidated comms. Microsoft Teams Direct Routing allows organisations to incorporate their Microsoft Teams solution with their ISDN, PSTN or PBX phonelines bringing together two previously separate methods of communication into a singular, holistic solution.

For businesses navigating multiple channels of communication, Direct Routing has a range of advantages, allowing them to manage internal and external calls, as well as messaging and conferences, from one platform: Microsoft Teams.

In order to get started with Teams Direct Routing, you must ensure that you have the correct licenses in place. In this article, we will explain the Teams Direct Routing license requirements necessary to implement this impressive comms solution.

Ensuring you meet the Microsoft Teams Direct Routing license requirements

There are several Teams Direct Routing license requirements, as there are several different components needed to set up the solution. In order to use Microsoft Teams for telephony, you must ensure that you have licenses for Microsoft Teams, the Microsoft Phone System and Microsoft Audio Conferencing.

The first Direct Routing license requirement is that every individual user must have a base license for Microsoft 365. You can then add the phone system and audio conferencing functionalities separately. If you choose this route, you can purchase any of the Microsoft Business plans, which offer you access to Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft 365 Business Basic

Costing just £4.50 per user, per month, this license gives you access to Web and mobile versions of Office apps, including Microsoft Teams, as well as a 99.9% uptime guarantee, consistent support and access to video calling, meetings and chat functions.

Microsoft 365 Business Standard

This license offers users all the features of Microsoft 365 Business Basic as well as desktop versions of the Office applications, webinar access and Microsoft Access and Publisher, all for £9.40 per user, per month.

Microsoft 365 Business Premium

The Business Premium license includes all the features of Business Standard as well as advanced threat protection and mobile and PC device management features, for £16.60 per user, per month.

Additional licenses

After selecting your Microsoft 365 package, in order to reach Teams Direct Routing license requirements, you must then purchase additional licenses for the phone system and audio conferencing.

Teams Phone Standard

This add-on provides access to the Teams Phone System, a hosted telephone service which offers Private Branch Exchange (PBX) access.

Audio Conferencing

This feature allows you to join Teams meetings by simply dialling a number from your phone.

The all-in-one option

Alternatively, if purchasing each license separately feels too complicated, you can invest in an E5 license which includes Teams functionality, Audio Calls and Phone System. For £48.10 per month, your organisation will meet the Microsoft Teams Direct Routing license requirements and be able to get started immediately.
