AVOIRA MARKS THE MET’S 50th BIRTHDAY WITH GOLDEN GIFT

Local tech company Avoira has presented a golden gift to The Met as Bury’s live music and arts centre celebrates its 50th birthday.

The business has provided a welcome financial boost to the acclaimed Market Street venue by signing up to be a Gold corporate member.

This continues a longstanding association which has also seen Avoira install a free public wi-fi system within the historic building and at the Met-hosted Ramsbottom, Heads for the Hills and Burrs Live festivals. It also supplied digital two-way radios to assist with the smooth and safe running of those outdoor events.

In addition, during the pandemic the company loaned high-tech body temperature reading cameras to help The Met safely re-open its doors to the arts-hungry public.

It has also financially supported the venue with corporate membership for the past eight years.

“It seemed especially fitting to renew our Gold membership in the year that The Met marks its golden anniversary,” commented Avoira Marketing Manager, Jennifer Laptew.

“It’s a privilege to back such a landmark venue which does so much for our town, beyond staging an impressively varied programme of music, comedy and theatre.

It’s creative learning outreach work inspires and supports the next generation of artists whilst, commercially, it has such a positive impact on our retail and nighttime economies.”

Speaking at The Met’s official 50th birthday celebrations, Chief Executive Victoria Robinson said: “In every decade of The Met’s existence we’ve overcome the many obstacles that continue to challenge arts venues across the country.

“We have done so, not just surviving but thriving, in no small part thanks to the support of the local community, be that our dedicated volunteers or companies like Avoira who recognise the importance of the arts to Bury’s cultural and economic vibrancy. “We are very grateful for Avoira’s continued support.”

In return for backing The Met, Avoira enjoys a number of business benefits. These include free use of the Stanley Bar for business meetings, event hire discounts and reaching over 45,000 culture vultures via digital advertising in the box office.

Avoira’s support of The Met is part of the company’s wider backing over many years of Bury’s cultural, tourist and charitable bodies.

Other organisations to have benefited from its generosity include the East Lancashire Railway, Fusiliers Museum, Bury Hospice and Annabel’s Challenge.
